Troubleshooting
Having installation issues? This page covers common problems like:
- Missing PlayMaker menu items
- Errors in the Unity Console after import
- Import failures or corrupted layout files
If you can't find a solution here, please post on the PlayMaker Forums.
Before Importing
Make sure there are no errors in the console before importing PlayMaker.
Unity won't compile imported scripts if there are existing errors in your project.
Missing Menu Items
Sometimes the PlayMaker Editor doesn’t show up in the main menu.
Why: Errors in your project can prevent newly imported scripts from compiling.
Solution:
- Open the Unity Console and look for errors.
- Check below for solutions to common import-related errors.
Console Errors After Import
You might see lots of type or reference errors in the Unity Console.
Warning
All scripts in your project should use namespaces to avoid naming conflicts.
Solution:
- Check the console for the type name causing the conflict.
- Search your project for scripts with that name.
- If it’s your script, add a namespace.
- If you’re not using it, consider removing it.
- If it’s from a third-party asset, contact the publisher with the error message.

Import Fails or Freezes
Possible Causes:
- Low disk space (check available storage).
- Virus checkers interfering with Unity import.
- Project stored in a syncing folder (like Google Drive or Dropbox).
Solution:
- Free up space and try again.
- Temporarily disable antivirus while importing.
- Move your project to a regular folder on your local disk.
Unity Window Layout Issues
Sometimes a corrupted Unity layout can prevent windows from appearing or scripts from compiling properly.
Solution:
- Revert to a default layout in Unity's Window menu.
Check Unity Version Compatibility
Some Unity versions have known issues with certain OS updates (e.g., macOS + Metal rendering bugs).
Solution:
- Visit the Unity Forums and search for compatibility notes related to your OS and Unity version.
- Try updating Unity or switching to an LTS version.
Try Restarting Unity
It sounds simple, but it works! Restarting Unity often clears import cache issues or temporary glitches.
